Event Information
In Association with EKAL Vidyalaya,
CARAVAN presents:

AVARTAN (Rhythm in Motion)
A journey of Indian music and Kathak through changing times; from the temples to Indian cinema to today's collaborative exchange of musical ideas!

AVARTAN or "Rhythm in Motion", suggesting the very nature of creation... the beginning is the end and end is the beginning. An AVARTAN denotes the beginning of a rhythmic and musical loop, completes its journey through every note and beat and arrives back to the point of its origin, its birth.

The popularity of Kathak dance and Indian music as well as Bollywood music has grown with time through cycles of evolution, from the temples to becoming a popular medium of entertainment in Indian cinema to the current times of experimentation and contemporary art.

AVARTAN is a collaboration of artists from different disciplines: Dance, Tabla, Vocals, Percussions and Sarangi etc and the use of visuals guides the audience through each segment. It's a musical journey through songs and Tabla recital, Kathak, its origin in the ancient Indian temples and its journey through the Mughal era, its reflection on popular culture (Indian cinema), to today's time of contemporary experiments and collaborative fusion.

This is a fund raising event to help underprivileged children who have minimum to no access to basic education in South Asia, supported by CARAVAN Corp. (A People's Performing Arts Non-Profit Group in Augusta Area.)
