presents:
The ASU Opera Ensemble in:
Amahl and the Night Visitors, a one-act Christmas opera
by Gian Carlo Menotti
ASU Opera and the Department of Music invite you to embrace the holiday spirit, as we present Amahl and the Night Visitors, Gian Carlo Menotti's charming and heart-warming Christmas opera -- our holiday gift to the community. Three splendid Kings travel from afar, following a star and bearing gifts for a Child. They stop to rest at the home of the crippled shepherd boy, Amahl, and his mother. This heart-warming and popular American work was the first opera commissioned especially for television, and was given its premiere by the NBC Television Opera Theater on Christmas Eve, 1951. It remained a traditional holiday event presented by NBC for many years. The Opera Ensemble, directed by Patti Myers, will be joined by two young guest artists in the role of Amahl. Please join us for our performance of this endearing little opera, which lasts just under an hour. |
