The Department of Music
presents:
Orchestra & Wind Ensemble
Under the direction of Dr. Martin David Jones The University Orchestra is a large ensemble comprised primarily of music majors, as well as a few music minors, non-majors and community members. In addition to its regular concert season performances, the orchestra also performs run-out concerts at Brandon Wilde, plays at graduation, and is the featured ensemble for the annual concerto competition winners concert. The orchestra's repertoire includes composers as diverse as Bach, Beethoven, Rimsky-Korsakov, Mendelssohn, Ennio Morricone, Michael Torke, Andre Previn, and John Williams. The University Orchestra was a featured ensemble at the 2010 Georgia Music Teachers Association annual conference, and it has collaborated with many performers including the renowned choral conductor Rodney Eichenberger, famed French conductor Bernard Thomas, and jazz great Wycliffe Gordon. Dr. Martin David Jones, who enjoys a multi-faceted career as conductor, composer, and international prize winning pianist, serves as the orchestra's Music Director and Conductor.
Under the direction of Dr. John Wojcik The Wind Ensemble is the university's premiere wind band. It is comprised mainly of music majors, but is open to all students on campus. The ensemble performs a wide variety of literature ranging from standards of the band repertoire, to the most recent compositions, representing works by the finest composers.
