Augsta State University
Department of Music
presents:
ASU Orchestra
Dr. Martin David Jones will lead the Augusta State University Orchestra and Choirs in a performance of music by Mozart, Liszt, and Vivaldi. Mozart's famous and dramatic Symphony No.40 in G minor will start the program, followed by Liszt's super-Romantic tone poem "Les Preludes" (honoring the Bicentennial of Liszt's birth). The ASU Choirs will then join the ASU Orchestra for a performance of the Vivaldi Gloria, one of the most beloved choral works. The Augusta State University Orchestra is a large ensemble comprised primarily of music majors and minors, as well as a few non-majors and community members. The orchestra began as the Augusta College Youth Orchestra directed by Dr. Eloy Fominaya. Under the direction of Dr. Martin David Jones, the orchestra's repertoire includes composers as diverse as Bach, Beethoven, Rimsky-Korsakov, Mendelssohn, Ennio Morricone, Michael Torke, and John Williams. |
